I have to admit this is the greatest all-time surprise to me, rising from below $3,000 to quite a fair bit over $4,500 on some exchanges in just a week.
Anyone who hedged against the “did-not-happen” price drop with other crypto assets becomes the biggest loss ever in terms of bitcoins.However against fiat no one should be complaining.
Looks like the expectation (not prediction) of bitcoin reaching $5,000 in 2017 has (to be) materialised prematurely.
